Chapter 3: Secret let loose
It was 11pm and I laid my head on Karin’s bed trying to sleep. When I heard her talking I sat up immediately as I thought she wanted to request for a drink. Then I heard the 4 words that made the strange feeling burn in my chest like it was on fire. They were: “I love you, Rick.” I didn’t know how to react to this, especially when those came out of Karin’s mouth. I heard the phone ringing outside in the hallway so I gently slipped my hand out of Karin’s hand, making sure I didn’t wake her up.
“Hello?”
“Hey Rick. This is Olette.”
“Oh, what’s up?”
“Did you find Karin?”
“Yes, why?”
“Oh that’s a relief. Your voice sounded urgent when you were looking for her in the cooking room, is she okay?”
“Yeah, she is now.”
“Glad to hear that.”
“Can I ask you something? Did Karin say anything about me before?”
“Well there IS something, Karin has a huge crush on you and she really loves you with all her heart.”
“I see.”
“Do you love her too?”
“Olette, I seriously have no idea. I need to think. Give me some time okay?”
“Fine. But you really must treat her well, whether you love her or not. Mark my words, ‘kay?”
“I will. I always will, now and probably in the future as well. By the way, don’t tell her you said anything to me okay? And by the way, did Karin mention anything negative about me? Like bad habits, flaws?”
“Rick, Rick, did you know that Karin loves you to the point that always put you first and doesn’t even want you to worry about what she hates? But I can tell you ONE thing… she just doesn’t like having Jennifer around you, jealousy is a powerful thing. Keep that in mind.”
“Thanks. Olette you really are seriously her trusted friend. But I have something to declare.”
“What’s that?”
“I have nothing to do with Jennifer, she just sticks to me once her eyes detect me and I can’t do anything ‘cause I suspect she has some radar in her tiny head. She ALWAYS finds me. Can you PLEASE keep her away from me?”
“THAT, my friend, would easy. Leave it to me. I have to go now, take care of Karin. Goodnight.”
“Thanks a lot. Bye.”
After hanging up, I went to Karin’s room again and returned to my original position. I wanted to ponder about what happened today but the lack of sleep killed me and I drifted into a deep sleep.
